According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Personal Care Aide/Home Health Aide is and will continue to be one of the most in-demand jobs in the nation.  Pratique will prepare you for this important position in the health care industry.  When you enroll in this course we will teach you the following:

1.  Introduction to Personal Care Aide.  Provides information on how to begin your journey to becoming a Personal Care Aide (PCA).

2.  Communication and Interpersonal Skills.  Training in basic verbal and nonverbal communication techniques, identification of factors which may impair communication and methods to enhance interpersonal skills.

3.  The Elderly.  We will explore the Physical and Biological Aspects of Aging, the Psychological aspects of Aging, the Physical and Emotional Needs of the Elderly, Critical Situations, and Orientation to Physical Disabilities.

4.  Personal Care and Rehabilitative Services.  PCAs must know how to perform certain physical actions in order to protect themselves and the client.  In addition, PCAs must observe Universal Precautions to prevent infection and spread of diseases.

5.  Home Management.  As much of the work performed by the PCA is inside a clients dwelling, it is imperative that the PCA understands the steps needed to protect themselves and the client during emergency situations, and to promote a safe environment through cleanliness.

6.  Safety and Accident Prevention in the Home.  Safety first!  That's a motto that's been around for quite some time and it is even more important for the PCA and the client environment.  Preventing falls, accidents, and medication errors are points of review in this module (among others).

7.  Food, Nutrition and Meal Preparation.  As people age or become less physically independent, they likely will need more help in choosing the right meals.  The PCA is one of the individuals who can help the client toward a balanced and nutritious meal plan.

8.  Documentation Requirements for Medicaid Recipients.  As with all medical related activities, documentation is one of the most important steps in the process of helping the client.  In this module we review the documentation requirements required by regulation.
